It is illegal to give or sell tobacco products to children under 18 years of age (Smokefree Act).

In October, another round of sting operations was carried out on retailers in the Manurewa/Weymouth area and another retailer was caught.

If you see shopkeepers or even people on the street selling or giving cigarettes to children tell your local Smokefree Officer on 623-4600. Look out for posters in local shops early in 2008 calling for a stop to supplying children under 18 with cigarettes.

The poster was designed by Zacchues Chong-nee of Weymouth Intermediate and will be distributed to retailers by the Keeping Kids Smokefree team.
